28 NOV 2010: FLORENCE MARATHON, ITALY
The Renaissance city of Florence is such a great place to visit and the race runs around all of the major sights of this open air museum. Starting on Piazza Michaelangelo, with its fantastic views across the cities roof tops, it then snakes around the Domo and along the River Arno before crossing the Ponte Vecchio and into the finish.
The race has grown into one of the most popular in Italy with over 9000 runners in 2009 - it is an event with a lot of plus sides; great organisation, pleasant autumn temperatures, historic palaces and museums, excellent shopping and excellent restaurants.
This year there will be a celebration 'Marathon Party' on the evening after the race at the Music Hall Saschall that will include dinner with a typical Tuscan, music, entertainment and dancing (if you have the energy). The cost is £9 for a competitor and £14 for a supporter.
