The creators of the Patagonian Expedition Race, one of "Ten Great Races in Amazing Places" (according to National Geographic, Jan 2012) now bring to you a new life experience - The Patagonian International Marathon! We call on athletes from all nations who dream of competing in pristine nature, to join us in 23 September 2012 for the inaugural Patagonian International Marathon, which will take place in Torres del Paine, Chilean Patagonia.
This will be the first event of its type in Patagonia's most visited region and your participation will support our mission to focus world attention on the conservation of Chilean Patagonia. Basic Package - 4-Nights
Day 1. Friday 21th September.
You will be met at Punta Arenas Presidente Ibanez airport (PUQ) by your NIGSA representative, from where you will be transferred to your centrally located accommodation in Punta Arenas, Chile.
Your stay will include a welcome drink and evening meal in the hotel restaurant where you can relax and enjoy the company of your fellow competitors and representatives from the race organization. For those who simply need to run, nearby is the costanera path which stretches for over 4 miles and is popular with local runners. Imagine! Running along the Strait of Magellan!
You will also be able to complete your registration nearby and be given your race goody bag, race number, timing chip and up-to-date race itinerary.
Day 2. Saturday 22th September.
Breakfast will be followed by your transfer in comfortable, air-conditioned coaches to the race head quarters. Along the way, you will cross the open plains of the Chilean pampa before reaching the pretty town of Puerto Natales, with its typically brightly painted houses, restaurants and cafés.
Puerto Natales sits on the shores of the Seno de Ultima Esperanza and is famed for its stunning reflections of distant glaciated mountains. We will stop here for lunch. Soon after Puerto Natales, we leave the tarmac roads as at last, the magnificent Torres come into site, with each corner bringing you closer to our goal - the magnificent granite spires of the Torres del Paine National Park! In the evening there will be a pasta night and event expo' at the Hotel las Torres, where the event will be presented.
You will also be able to review the course in detail and see films of our signature event - the Patagonian Expedition Race.
Day 3. Race day. Sunday 23rd September.
An early breakfast will be available, after which we will transfer you to the start, following the race route in reverse. As your anticipation of the amazing race grows, you can enjoy views of the entire Torres Massif and the stunning lakes with their jewel like colors. You can be certain to see elegant gaunaco, condors riding on thermals and you may even see the rare and elusive huemul or a puma.

After you finish, a buffet will be available for all runners. Later, when you have rested, we invite you to join us for the prize-giving ceremony at a special Patagonian evening, centered around a traditional parillada, where you can relax and enjoy traditional Magellanes music and dance, while sharing your race stories with your new-found amigos!
Day 4. Monday 24th September.
For those returning to Punta Arenas, you can enjoy a leisurely healthy breakfast before the return trip to Punta Arenas. En-route, we will detour to visit the stunning cave of the Milodon, once home to Patagonia's amazing pre-historic bear, where we'll also enjoy a lunch and refreshment stop. Eventually though, we must return to Punta Arenas, and for most people, a final night's rest at your chosen accommodation, leaving behind nothing but footprints, taking away nothing but beautiful memories and new friendships.

The Karukinka reserve in Southern Tierra del Fuego was established in 2004 through a land grant from Goldman Sachs to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in one of the largest donations ever made for conservation in the world. Karukinka, which means "our land" in the language of the indigenous Selk'nam, is a pristine corner at the end of the world, boasting imposing mountain ranges, virgin sub-antarctic forests, unique peat bogs, and endless rolling steppes. The reserve is a spectacular showcase for emblematic Patagonian wildlife such as guanacos, foxes, Magellanic woodpeckers and the majestic Andean condor, and is home to more than seven hundred plant species. Besides that, you will we be able to enjoy the majestic views of the deep fjords and white-caped mountains of the untamed Darwin Range and see incredible glaciers falling from 1,500m into the sea. Only a few have had the opportunity to discover the secrets of Karukinka - your chance awaits! Join us on a trip to the first and just recently opened trails in Karukinka!

Faro San Isidro
Duration: 2 Days / 1 Night (249USD)
The two-day program begins with land transport from Punta Arenas to Voces Bay, point of embarcation. There, a coastal navigation takes off in a fast rigid inflatable boat. This ride takes between 20 to 30 minutes, and it is common to make sightings of the southern Peal dolphin. Upon arrival at the lodge, you will be offered coffee with home-made pastries. Your guide will welcome you and inform you of the morning activities, which include visiting a reproduction of a Kaweshkar settlement, a visit to the lighthouse museum and a later trekking to Aguila Bay, all of which will take two hours. The return to the Lodge is done by sailing, arriving for a lunch based on seafood, vegetables and Chilean wine.
During the afternoon we will get prepared for a kayak expedition, paddling next to the coast, passing Aguila Bay. Depending on the ability of the passengers and of the climate conditions, it is possible to reach as far as Nassau Islet. During this activity, sightings of Peal dolphins and sea lions and a variety of sea birds are frequent. The adventure will take between three and five hours. Upon returning, dinner will be awaiting and a time for commenting the activities with the guide, learning about next day's activities, ending with an agreeable rest in the comfort of your room.
Next day, after morning coffee, we will prepare for hiking to Mount Tarn, taking a box lunch and sailing to Punta Arbol. From there, we will disembark in order to reach the beginning of the trail for ascent, which takes three to four hours, with a privileged view of the Strait of Magellan and the islands at the end of the world. Descent takes about two hours, for a total of between five and seven hours, depending on the capabilitiies of the trekkers. After this activitiy, we will return to the Lodge for coffee and to prepare for an outing at approximately 16:30, returning to the embarkation point where our transfer van will be waiting for us to return to your Lodge and back to the city at 18:00.

Kayaking at Laguna Parrillar National Reserve
Duration: Half Day (149USD)
This is a half day program for people who love nature and outdoor activities such as kayaking and trekking. Laguna Parrillar National Reserve is located 50 km from Punta Arenas. The reserve takes its name from the principal lake, Laguna Parrillar, which has a surface area of 12 km². Laguna Parrillar is a beautiful place surrounded by typical Patagonian Notafagus.
The price includes all equipment and certified kayak guide (American Canoe Association).
Fly Fishing in Laguna Parrillar National Reserve
Duration: Half Day (Consult for prices)
This is a half day trip for people who love fly fishing and enjoy nature.
Laguna Parrillar National Reserve is a special place that offers beautiful species such as the Fontinally Trout, with an average size of 1-2kgs.

Kayak the Strait of Magellan

Kayak navigation through Strait of Magellan from San Juan River to San Isidro Lighthouse. San Isidro is the southernmost traditional lighthouse on the South American mainland, located 75 km south of the city of Punta Arenas. Illuminated in 1904 for the first time, San Isidro is part of eight century old lighthouses placed along the shores of the Strait of Magellan. This place is an historical site surrounded by wonderful flora and fauna. Come and enjoy the tranquility of this unique experience.

Vicuña - Trekking
Duration: Full Day (Consult for prices)
Vicuña is the center of operations of the Wildlife Conservation Society where you will have the possibility of getting to know their scientific work and learn about the projects involved in protecting wild Patagonia. This place offers a variety of trekking trails, of different lenghts and difficulty. These walks are encouraging, allowing you discover a rich diversity of landscapes, with many sightings of wildlife.
Cerro Cóndores Imaginarios (Imaginary Condors' Hill): Located northeast of Refugio Vicuña is a tour that allows for the enjoyment of important attractions of Tierra del Fuego: Rasmussen River, steppe of Tierra del Fuego, and Lenga forests. Along the way you can see the presence of guanacos in the steppe and woodpeckers in the forest. The trek continues to the top of a mountain with beautiful panoramic views and frequent condor sightings. This route is of low difficulty, but does include a river crossing.

Superior Package Dreams del Estrecho / Hotel Las Torres Patagonia
The first night of your stay, you will be lodged at the Hotel Dreams del Estrecho. This sparkling, modern, high-rise 5 star hotel is located directly on the coast, with amazing views across the Strait of Magellan and the picturesque city of Punta Arenas. It´s Skybar on the 19th floor is the nightlife centre of the city. Rooms are air conditioned and offer Internet access and bathrooms equipped with separate hydromassage-shower and a bathtub. Among facilities you can find are a Hydro-spa, Boulevard Restaurant and the great Dreams Casino. Inclusive for guests is the use of the swimming pool, the modern gym and sauna.
During your stay in the National Park, you will be staying at the Hotel Las Torres Patagonia. Las Torres Patagonia is a family run hotel, styled after a working estancia. The hotel is also in easy walking distance of the bustling town centre and local shops, cafés and restaurants, plus the museums and other attractions of this lively and historic city.
In partnership with Eco Camp Patagonia we able to cater for small groups of 2 or more who can stay in beautifully appointed giant dome tents, close to the race HQ and hotel. The dome tents are styled on the yurt-like tents used by the indigenous Kaweskar people and are designed to allow you to be totally immersed in the light and wild nature of Patagonia.

In Punta Arenas you will be at the 3-star Best Western Finis Terrae hotel, which is centrally located in the colonial heart of the city, but still within easy walking distance of the coast road. Single, double and twin rooms are available at the Finis Terrae, where one of the best features is surely the top floor dining and breakfast room, with views across the Straits of Magellan to Tierra del Fuego and also across the north of the city.
In the Torres del Paine National Park, you will be assigned a shared room at either the Refugio Torre Central, or the nearby Refugio Torre Norte, which were carefully designed to match the ‘estancia' look of the nearby Hotel las Torres. These refugios are considered to be among the best in South America with modern amenities and a large, airy dining room.
