In just a few short years the South Downs Marathon and Marathon Relay have become classics on the Trail Running calander - which is not surprising when you look at the fantastic scenery on the route.

In 2012 we launched a half marathon as well - and this took off immediately.

All the details for the marathon and relay will remain the same as in 2011. Starting at Slindon College with a four wave system starting 20mins apart with the first wave consisting of relay runners, the second runners who predict a finishing time of over 5hrs, then the marathon runners predicting times of between 4 and 5hrs and final wave for runners predicting under 4 hrs.

The Half Marathon will start and finish in Queen Elizabeth Country Park and will pick up the South Downs Marathon route at approx 22 miles and finish on the same route.  We are altering the opening 4 miles a little to allow a bit more flattish running before the slog up Butser Hill - the hill remains though, for it's challenge and the stupendous views from the top.

Because of very limited parking at the start all marathon runners are asked to use the bus from the finish line car park to the start that is included in the entry fee.

Minimum age for marathon: 18yrs. Minimum age for half marathon 17yrs. No minimum age for fun run.

Relay teams are responsible for their own team drop offs at the start and change over locations. Minimum age for members of relay teams is 15+.

The total elevation gain is 5728ft and loss -5523ft.
