6 APR 2014: PARIS MARATHON, FRANCE

Slideshow

The Paris Marathon is one of the oldest of the big city marathons and pre-dates London by 4 years - equalling London in its size - with 40,000 runners each year.

The course has changed several times since its inception, but the route for the last 10 years or so is now well established and is an essential sightseeing tour of the city; starting on the Champs Elysees and running down the wide Boulevard to Place du Concorde, past the Louvre and out to the east of the city. It then joins the banks of the River Seine and returns past Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower on the way to the finish at the Arc de Triomphe on Avenue Foch.

We specialise in Hotels that are in close proximity of the start and/or finish of our big city marathons and our choice for Paris, the excellent 4-star Le Meridien Etoile is no exception as it is located close to Etoile, a few minutes walk to the start on Champs Elysees and even closer to the finish which is on Avenue Foch.

Paris is a great place to bring your partner in the Spring - although running a marathon may not be a truely romantic thing to do. On race day we look after your partners, taking them from the start the short walk to the 29km point - just a 1km walk for us while you do 29km of course, enjoy a coffee at a nearby cafe then watch you come through at Pont D'Iena underpass then it is a short walk back to Etoile while you comeplete the rest of the marathon.

Please note there is a cut-off time of 5hrs 40mins.

Medical Certificate

All participants in sports events in France must supply a medical certificate with their race entry. This should take the form of a letter on your family doctors letter head with the following statement:

"I, the undersigned Dr, Dr of medicine, certify that the examination of [runners name] reveals no contraindications for participating in running competitions".

This should be signed and dated by your doctor.

We enter each competitor online at a special password protected area of the Paris Marathon entry database - once this is done the Paris Marathon organiser will contact you about submitting your medical letter directly to the race - this is a diffiernet process to previous years.
