The Tokyo Marathon has joined the ranks of the World Marathon Majors, lining up alongside Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York as the newest member of this exclusive club.

Runners have two reasons to travel: one is for the race, of course, but the second is to experience running in a different culture. There are few cultural experiences that are so discernibly different to the UK than Japan. Our unique tour programme includes a Japanese dinner in an authentic local venue, and on the 5-night option there is the chance to immerse yourself in the culture on a special day out to Hakone Yumoto, one of Japanese oldest and most traditional hot spring resorts.

We also include the Tokyo Marathon Friendship Run 2017, which will take place at the Imperial Palace, a short distance from our hotel, transfer to the Expo for number pick up, a special edition official Tokyo Marathon running jacket and a pre-loaded Pasmo Card (like an Oyster Card on London Underground) so that you are able to use the public transport system with ease.

The Marathon

It is a fast course and the race is exceptionally well organised, from easy access to the baggage trucks and getting to the start corals to the super-slick handling of the finish line. This year the finish has been moved into the City Centre and will be close to the Imperial Palace, which is walking distance from our hotel.

Tokyo is a fascinating city with a mix of the old and new. The Tokyo Marathon course takes you on a journey through all the districts from the Metropolitan Government office, around the Imperial Palace, past the Tokyo Tower, Ginza District, Tokyo Station, Asakusa Kaminarimon Gate - the oldest temple in Tokyo - and now finishes in the heart of the city back at the Imperial Palace.

Race time limit: 7hrs

Average temp: 12C

Age limit: 19 years +

TRAINING: WE ARE MARATHON RUNNERS AND HAVE RUN ALL OF THE MARATHON MAJORS. We support you all of the way with a 16-week training plan, delivered by weekly email, with a plan for a full range of abilities, nutrition and injury prevention tips, and information on the routes. And personal contact with Personal Trainer, Yolanda Gratton, a 3.15 performer, and Mike Gratton, 1983 London Marathon winner.

SPECIAL OFFER: EACH OF OUR TRAVELLERS WILL RECEIVE A SPECIAL TOKYO MARATHON 2017 RUNNING JACKET. This special jacket will not be available to purchase at the race and will be a true collectors piece - our runners from 2016 adored them. A similar jacket purchased at Expo cost over US$200.
