Set in the stunning surroundings of Denbies Vineyard near Dorking the Bacchus Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K have rapidly become must-do events on the UK running calendar.  Most of the field turn out in fancy dress, there are numerous bands playing around the course but it's the drinks station on route that separate Bacchus from other running races and epitomise the spirit of the event.

You will have the chance to sample six fabulous English wines, at five drinks stations along the course with two wines served at the last station, with food and soft drinks to accompany them. If you are running the marathon you go around twice which means 12 wines! There's more food and drink waiting for you at the finish at the post-race hog roast where the party carries on long into the evening.

RACE HQ

As England’s largest vineyard, Denbies Wine Estate has been producing award winning wines since 1986. It is the first wine estate in the world to give visitors of all ages a unique and fascinating insight into all aspects of the wine producing process, all year round, with indoor and outdoor tours and tastings. The vineyards of Denbies Estate are situated on the North Downs with its famous chalky soil, in a protected valley of south facing slopes.

The venue has secure baggage, toilets and changing facilities (sorry, no showers).  Refreshments are available for purchase from the restaurant and a post-race Hog Roast is included in your entry for those in the Full, Half or 10km events. Friends, family and supporters are welcome to spend the day at Denbies with indoor wine tasting, art gallery, Farm Shop, Wine and Gift Shop and public footpath trails.  Entry to the estate and parking is free of charge. The Hog roast can be purchased on the day for non-participants and children in the 3km.

RACE ENTRY

Finishers of the Full and Half Marathon will receive a technical T-shirt (available in Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large or X-large), medal, post-race hog roast and complimentary drink on completion of the race. Entry to all events also includes free race photogaphs

Runners in the 10km will reach two wine stations and participants 18 or over can sample up to three wines - those under the legal age to drink alcohol (identified by special numbers) will have a choice of soft drinks available instead. The Hog roast is included in the entry fee but the T-shirt is an additional cost of £10.

The Route

The route is one lap (Half) or two laps (Full) and starts and finishes at the main building inside Denbies Vineyard near Dorking, Surrey. The route is undulating and extremely hilly in places as it is on the escarpment of the North Downs. Nearly all of the route is on trails, some smooth, some rugged, taking in sections of the Pilgrims Way and North Downs Way with just the last 2 miles on hard road surfaces.

Using footpaths along the North Downs Way, you will be guaranteed breath-taking views over the Mole Valley, Ranmore Common and the North Downs.

MARATHON CUT OFF TIME

So that we can safely manage the route and the drink sampling stations we have been advised we should have a cut off time in the Full Marathon of 5:30 hours. Runners who do not reach the half way point by 2hrs 50mins will be asked to finish at the Half Marathon and will receive a Half-Marthon medal. Our last person marshal will start to break down the route following the final wave starts and unfortunately we will not be able to offer drink station or medical support to any runners who continue after the cut off.

Toilets

For 2020, as well as ample toilets at the start/finish area, we will have portable toilets on the route at two differnet locations.

Headphone Policy:

As we are not running on any public highways (although there is one road to cross in two places) we allow headphones to be used but it is your responsibility to make sure you listen to any instructions by marshals and you wear headphones entirely at your own risk.

Race entry fees:

Full & Half Marathon £50

10km £30

Children's Fun Run (free - participants should sign up on the race entry platform so that we know the anticipated attendance)

Active Training World who process our on-line entries charge an administration fee of 6% of the entry fee.

Registration closes on September 3rd at midnight or when the limit of 3000 total runners across all the three main events is reached.
