3 JUN 2012: COMRADES MARATHON, SOUTH AFRICA
Perhaps the most famous - and infamous - ultra marathon in the world the annual procession takes you on a point to point course from Pietermaritzburg to Durban or the reverse depending on if it is an up or a down year, but always it is 89km or 56miles. 2012 is a down year and runs from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
The start time is 5.30am and the finish line closes sharp at 5.30pm - those who reach the finish even a second after this time will have the cruel sight of the officials turning their backs on them.
Runners will require a qualifying time of under 5hrs for a marathon run between 15 June 2011 and 28 April 2012 or equivalent in another ultra race. Minimum age 20yrs.

2:09 EVENTS - ABOUT & PRIVACY STATEMENT
The tour is based on a 5-night stay from 31 May to 6 June. You can book extra nights or add-on a stop over in other parts of South Africa. Flights are not included.
Thur 31 May: Arrive in Durban and transfer from the airport to your hotel, the City Lodge Durban.
Fri 1 June: At leisure in Durban - registration - optional tour of the course (see race website http://www.comrades.com/.
Sat 2 June: Check out of the hotel and tansfer along the race route to your hotel in Pietermaritzburg, the Golden Horse Casino Hotel.
Sun 3 June: Check out of the hotel and transfer to the race start nearby (10 min transfer). At the end of the race your guides will help you with the short walk back to your hotel in Durban the Durban City Lodge.
Mon 4 June: Straighten your legs if you can! Transfer back to Durban and check into the City Lodge Durban. Rest of the day at leisure.
Tue 5 June: Check-out of the hotel and transfer back to the airport for the flight home or extend your stay in South Africa.
