30 MAY 2010: COMRADES MARATHON, SOUTH AFRICA
Perhaps the most famous - and infamous - ultra marathon in the world the annual procession takes you on a point to point course from Pietermaritzburg to Durban or the reverse depending on if it is an up or a down year, but always it is 89km or 56miles. 2010 is a down year and runs from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. The start time is 5.30am and the finish line closes sharp at 5.30pm - those who reach the stadium at Kingmead even a second after this time will have the cruel sight of the officials turning their backs on them.
