28 OCT 2013: DUBLIN MARATHON, IRELAND

Dublin has fast become a city known for it's party atmosphere, particularly around Temple Barr, but there's so much more, from the superb Georgian facades of the GPO Building, to Trinity College and Moore Street Market, Dublin is a city on a grand scale. And with that pub culture to boost your post race relaxation you will definitly get into the party mood.

The Race

The Dublin Marathon is always held on the last Monday of October, which is a Bank Holiday in Ireland. You are guaranteed enthusiastic crowds, which help make Dublin such an experience. A few refinements made to the course in the last few years, making it quicker, is clearly reflected by the new course record set in 2010 of 2hrs 8mins 58 by Kenyan Moses Kibet. With 14,000 expected runners, the race is the right size to give you company without crowding your running space.

Time limit: 8hrs

Course: The course, which is largely flat, is AIMS certified and is one lap around the city. The race starts at Fitzwilliam Street Upper and finishes at Merrion Square nearby, close to historic Trinity College in the city centre. The course passes through many of Dublin's famous 18th century Georgian streets and the beautiful Phoenix Park, Europe's largest urban park. The race crosses the city, north and south of the river Liffey, and down Dublin's wide main thoroughfare, O'Connell Street.

Water/Feed Stations: Ballygowan Spring Water is provided in 250ml bottles at the following points: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 17, 18.5, 20.5, 22.5 and 24 miles and in the goody bag at the finish. Energise Sport Drink will be  provided at 9, 12 & 18.5 miles and also in the goody bag at the finish. High 5 gels will be available at 15 & 20.5 miles.

Toilets: At start and finish areas and on the course at 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 17, 18.5, 20.5, 22.5 and 24 miles.

First Aid: St John's Ambulance provide First Aid facilities at the finish area and at 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 17, 18.5, 20.5, 22.5 and 24 miles.

Weather: Average temperatures of between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius, with usually a light, south-westerly breeze of the Gulf Stream.  Ideal conditions for marathon running!

JChip and Timing: The course is marked in MILES and every 5K. Seiko timing clocks will be provided periodically. JChip timing mats will be located at the Start, the Halfway point and at the Finish and other locations on the route. Competitors must pass over these mats at all locations to ensure their times are recorded.

Awards: Everyone who finishes the  Dublin Marathon course will receive a beautiful engraved marathon medal, plus a special commemorative marathon T-shirt and a goody bag.  A finish photo will be available from http://www.marathonfoto.com/. Race results and finish certificates will be available at  http://www.dublinmarathon.ie/
