ENTRIES FOR THE 2022 BACCHUS WINE HALF MARATHON AND 10K ARE NOW OPEN

Amongst oenphiles, English wine has been an open secret for some time and there is no better place to sample it than Denbies Vineyard in Dorking on September 11, 2022 accompanied by a bit of running at the Bacchus Wine Half Marathon and 10K.

Set in stunning surroundings off the North Downs, Bacchus has rapidly become one of the must-do events on the UK running calendar.  Most of the field turn out in fancy dress, there are bands and other musical entertainment around the course, but it's the drinks stations on route that separates Bacchus from other running races and epitomise the spirit of the event.

You will have the chance to sample six fabulous award-winning English wines, at five drinks stations along the course (you visit one station twice going out and coming back) with food and soft drinks to accompany them. If you are running 10K you'll visit two of the wine stations. There's more food, drink and music waiting for you at the finish at the post-race hog roast where the party carries on long into the evening.

Unfortunately there will be no Marathon in 2022. As numbers in the full Marathon distance start to dwindle we felt we could no longer fully support the marathon runners without compromising the Half Marathon or 10K.

RACE HQ

As England’s largest vineyard, Denbies Wine Estate has been producing award-winning wines since 1986. It is the first wine estate in the world to give visitors of all ages a unique and fascinating insight into all aspects of the wine-producing process, all year round, with indoor and outdoor tours and tastings. The vineyards of Denbies Estate are situated on the North Downs with its famous chalky soil, in a protected valley of south-facing slopes.

The venue has secure baggage, toilets and changing facilities (sorry, no showers).  Refreshments are available for purchase from the restaurant and a post-race Hog Roast is included in your entry for those in the Half Marathon or 10km. Friends, family and supporters are welcome to spend the day at Denbies with indoor wine tasting, an art gallery, Farm Shop, Wine and Gift Shop and public footpath trails.  Entry to the estate and parking is free of charge. The Hog roast can be purchased on the day for non-participants and children in the 2km fun run.

RACE ENTRY

Finishers of the Half Marathon will receive a technical T-shirt (available in Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, XL or XXL), medal, post-race hog roast and complimentary drink on completion of the race. Entrants for the Half-Marathon must be 18 years or older.

Runners in the 10km will reach two wine stations and participants over 18 years old can sample two different wines - those under the legal age to drink alcohol (identified by special markings on the numbers) will have a choice of soft drinks available instead. The Hog roast is included in the entry fee but the T-shirt is an additional cost of £10 if ordered in advance or £15 on the day subject to availability.

Children's 2km Fun Run - for children under the age of 12 - a pure fun run, free of charge and no timing but each participant will receive a medal.

Entry to all events also includes free race photographs

THE ROUTE

The Half Marathon is one lap and starts and finishes in front of the main building inside Denbies Vineyard near Dorking, Surrey. The route is undulating and extremely hilly in places as it is on the escarpment of the North Downs. Nearly all of the route is on trails, some smooth, some rugged, taking in sections of the Pilgrims Way and North Downs Way.

Using footpaths along the North Downs Way, you will be guaranteed breath-taking views over the Mole Valley, Ranmore Common and the North Downs.

The 10km starts and finishes in the same place follows the start of the Half Marathon route for the first few miles before coming back through the vineyards to the finish.

10KM ROUTE

TOILETS

For 2022, as well as ample toilets in the car park and behind the main building at the start/finish area, we will have portable toilets on the route at two different locations.

BAGGAGE

There is a secure baggage area behind the main marquee to the right of Denbies main building. You will be asked to approach the start by walking through the marquee and will therefore pass the baggage area on your way to the start. After finishing you reverse your direction and pass the baggage again before entering the marquee, which hosts the post-race hog roast.

MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT

There will be bands or musical entertainment at each of the drinks stations and on other sections of the course. There will also be a DJ playing at The Hog Roast in the finish area.

HEADPHONE POLICY

As we are not running on any public highways (although there is one road to cross in two places) we allow headphones to be used but it is your responsibility to make sure you listen to any instructions by marshals and you wear headphones entirely at your own risk.

RACE ENTRY FEES

Half Marathon £55

10km £35

Children's Fun Run (free - participants should sign up on the race entry platform so that we know the anticipated attendance)

The entry fee includes all booking and adminstration charges levied by the on-line entry platform.

Registration closes at midnight on Saturday September 4th or when the limit of 3000 total runners across all two main events is reached.

VOLUNTEERS

We are always looking for extra volunteers who can help at the start/finish area with runners registration, to hand out medals and T-shirts at the finish or to serve drinks and food at the drinks stations. All our volunteers receive free entry to one of our future UK events, a goody bag of products and a ticket to the post-race hog-roast. Send a note to katie@209events.com if you are interested in being a volunteer.
