Runners have two reasons to travel: one is for the race, of course, but the second is to experience running in a different culture.  There are few cultural experiences that are so discernibly different from the UK than Japan.  Our unique tour programme includes guaranteed entry to the 2020 Tokyo Marathon, a pre-marathon tour of the course and the city, a Japanese dinner in an authentic local venue and a chance to immerse yourself in the culture on a day trip to Hakone Yumoto, one of Japan’s oldest and most traditional hot spring resorts.
The Marathon
t is a fast course and the race is exceptionally well organised, from easy access to the baggage trucks and getting to the start to the super-slick handling of the finish line.
Tokyo is a fascinating city with a mix of the old and new.  From the start at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building the Tokyo Marathon course takes you on a journey through all the districts – the Imperial Palace, where the race finishes, past the Tokyo Tower, Ginza District, Tokyo Station, and Asakusa Kaminarimon Gate – the oldest temple in Tokyo.
Race time limit: 7hrsÂ
Average temp: 12C
Age limit: 19 years +Â

NEW OTANI HOTEL- 4 STAR SUPERIOR - SOLD OUT
Surrounded by a beautiful 400-year old Japanese garden, the New Otani Tokyo Hotel is a very large western-style hotel ituated in central Tokyo and offers comfortable accommodation less than a 10-minute walk from 5 subway lines.
Th New Otani Hotel is just 300 metres from Akasaka-Mitsuke Subway Station. From this station the Ginza, Shibuya and Shinjuku areas can all be reached in less than a 10-minute subway ride.
Decorated with soft elegance, rooms include a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and a minibar. Some have views of the hotel's Japanese garden or the Tokyo skyline.
Guests can experience Japanese culture at the tea ceremony room. Relaxation options include a sauna and spa with massage service.
Hotel New Otani features an incredible 32 dining options, ranging from international cuisine to authentic Japanese dishes – everything from French and Italian to tempura and teppanyaki. The Sky Restaurant offers revolving panoramic city views.
Rooms for our group are in the Garden Tower.
We have stayed at several hotels in Tokyo and found this to be the ideal choice - close to the popular Ginza area of Tokyo with its shops and nightlife it is better placed for having fun than hotels at the start, which are in the Government sector with little life surrounding and at the finish, which is basically a conference centre area.
FLIGHTS
Our flights are with British Airways from London Heathrow to Haneda Airport, Tokyo. As our entry allocation is very limited we can only sell the tour as a full package to meet our commitments to enable us to have group bookings.

This evening we’ll be hosting a private group meal at a local Japanese restaurant within walking distance of the hotel. This restaurant will be serving a tasting menu that includes a variety of freshly-soured fish, vegetable and meat dishes – the experience is uniquely Japanese (vegetarians will be catered for).  This is a genuine unique Japanese experience not available in the more Westernized restaurants at the hotel.  Special dietary requirements can be catered for, but the restaurant needs to be pre-informed so please advise us well in advance of any such requirements.  All drinks are included with the meal. Â
Sat 29thFeb:                This morning you and any companions can join us for the Tokyo Marathon Friendship Run 2020 – a short 5km warm up that will take place close to the Marathon Expo.  Entry is an optional extra and is not included in the tour.Â

We will escort companions to the Ginza area where they can see the race and catch you running by several times as the route goes out and back in a number of places – they can make their way to the finish area to watch you cross the line, be reunited after the race and travel back with you to the hotel. Â

During the After Run Party the 6-star medals will be presented to those who are completing their sixth Abbott World Marathon at the Tokyo Marathon. it is an expensive ticket but the past-feedback about the after run has always been very positive and is far more than most events offer.Â
Mon 2ndMar:              The day after the marathon you can soothe your aching muscles with our day trip to Hakone Yumoto, one of Japan’s oldest and most traditional hot spring resorts.  Hakone is to the west of Tokyo and is just over an hour’s train ride by Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo station, once there you’ll spend a few hours soaking and relaxing in a traditional Onsen (bath house) nestled in the woods before enjoying a late Japanese lunch in a private room at the Onsen followed by a stroll around the town before returning to Tokyo in the evening on the local railway direct from Hakone. Â
Note: The Japanese have strict rules on tattoos, which are associated with the Yakuza (organised crime gangs) and hence do allow anyone with visible tatoos to bath in the hot springs, although they can visit the onsen.Â
