The world of elite marathon running is dominated by African athletes but few of the continent's marathon events would qualify as elite. The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is one of the few exceptions. It's a world class event hosted by a world class destination city. After going through three years of qualification as a candidate race, it is now officially the 8th Abbott Word Marathon Major and will be run as a Major for the first time in 2027.

The race itself is a fantastic celebration of the cultural diversity of South Africa, showcasing what can be achieved when the country unites behind a common purpose. Cape Town, known as the ‘Mother City’ has a long and well-documented history as a destination city of choice for the discerning traveller. Its appeal speaks for itself. Other than running the race, there is plenty to see and do while you are in this beautiful coastal city with numerous internationally acclaimed restaurants, shops and attractions. We have a limited number of entries and hotel packages for the 2027 race and we expect that demand to be high.

  SOUTHERN SUN CAPE SUN 4*

  The Southern Sun Cape Sun is located in the centre of Cape Town a short walk from the start/finish of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon near the DHL Stadium, which also hosts the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Expo. Our representative will be staying with you at the hotel.

  

   All of the spacious, air-conditioned rooms at the Southern Sun Cape Sun feature views of either Table Mountain, Robben Island or Table Bay. Each room has an antique-style décor and are en suite with a bath and shower. The hotel also features a fitness centre and splash pool.

  

  A buffet breakfast is served daily, with lunch and dinner available at Riempies Restaurant. The cuisine combines the modern and traditional and reflects the region’s Cape Dutch heritage.

  TOUR ITINERARY - NOT OPEN YET

  THURSDAY 20 MAY

  Welcome to Cape Town! Make your way from the airport to the hotel and check in. Usually, hotel rooms are ready after 3:00pm, if you arrive earlier you can leave your luggage at the hotel. The Southern Sun Cape Sun is a short walk from all race activities and its city centre location is surrounded by top quality restaurants and entertainment. Between 10:00-3:00pm our representative will be waiting in the lobby to greet you and answer any questions you might have.

  FRIDAY 21 MAY 

  This morning after breakfast we take you the short distance on foot to the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Expo. Pick up your bib and explore the stalls before making your own way back to the hotel at your leisure. 

  In the evening join us at a local restaturant for a fun filled evening of interactive enterainment and African food. You'll have a chance to try your hand at djembe drumming before the professionals entertain you during dinner where you can sample a range of foods from a Cape Malay menu.

  SATURDAY 22 MAY

  This morning after breakfast you are welcome to join us for a light shake-out run along the harbour and Sea Point Promenade. This will be at an easy pace and is a chance to loosen your legs. It will be no longer than 5km (approx. 3 miles). Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

  SUNDAY 23 MAY

  Race day is here! After an early breakfast, meet our representatives who will be in the hotel lobby. We will have transport from the hotel to the start village near the DHL stadium. 

  After the race, recharge in the finish village, International tent. Meet up here to find your family and friends or meet them back at the hotel. There will be transport back from the finish to the hotel. 

  This evening meet up in the hotel bar for a post drink to celebrate your amazing accomplishment! 

  MONDAY 24 MAY 

  Unless you have booked extra nights with us then today is the day you check out of your room and say goodbye to South Africa.

  Single means one person in the room with one king sized bed, double means two people in the room sharing one king sized bed. Twin means two people in the room with two beds.

  
  

  You can not access the double or twin prices unless you have two people in the room, the cost of two runners for four nights with two race entries is £2298, for one runner with an entry and one supporter for four nights it is £1998. If you are travelling alone the single price applies.

  Our race entries are only available as past of our hotel package, there is no option for RACE ENTRY ONLY.
