The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS was elevated to the ranks of the Abbott Marathon Majors in 2025. It is the first race from the Southern Hemisphere to join the world's biggest marathon club which also includes Tokyo, London, Boston, Berlin, Chicago, New York City and in 2027 Cape Town.
The first two years as an Abbott World Marathon Major have been a stunning success with an unprecedented number of international and Australian runners, travelling to Sydney to run the race. It is easy to understand why. Sydney is one of the world's great cities. Its marathon is run on a wonderfully scenic course taking in some of the Sydney's spectacular and historic landmarks including the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, where the race finishes.
Overall demand for the race in 2026 was such that the general entry was over-subscribed and there was a lottery to allocate entries. Our guaranteed travel operator entries - which are only available with a hotel package - also sold out quickly. The target for 2027 is 40,000 runners in total and general entry was once again via a lottery. We sold out of entries within a couple of months in 2026 and we are expecting high demand for our packages once again.
The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS has a seven hour cut off from the gun.
