Waiting List - New York Marathon 2023
The New York City Marathon is the 'Big Daddy' of big City Marathons. It is the model so many other mass participation races have followed and with good reason. New York is an event you will never forget: the mass start over the two-mile expanse of the Verazzano Narrows Bridge is stunning, the main route through the five boroughs of the City is like a little cultural tour through the City and the last few miles on the rolling hills of Central Park is an iconic finish. Every runner should experience this event at least once in their lifetime, although many come back year after year and with more international runners than any other event, it is genuinely the race where the world comes to run.Â
It was such a pleasure to be back at the event in 2022, our first time in New York since the COVID pandemic. We missed the energy of the city and the sheer joy of being part of the world's biggest marathon.Â
The 2023 race will be a further step back to normality. The US has removed the majority of its COVID entry restrictions - UK nationals still have to prove they have been vaccinated against the illness - and we expect the race to return to a full field in excess of 40,000 runners with nearly half of them from overseas.
Demand for places in the New York City Marathon, which is one of the six Abbott Marathon Majors, has never been higher but we are delighted to once again be part of the event's International Travel Operator Programme, as we have been for over 30 years. That means we have a limited block of guaranteed entries to the race, which are available to purchase with one of our travel packages. The majority are Hotel and Entry packages, although we do have a limited number of flight inclusive packages.Â
Our main packages are based at the historic 4-star Warwick Hotel, which is a short walk from the marathon finish line on Central Park West but this year we will also have a secondary group at the 3-star Edison Hotel close to Times Square.Â
YOUR GUARANTEED RACE ENTRY
2:09 Events is an official International Tour Operator (ITO) of the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon® and have an allocation of guaranteed race entries, which are available to runners taking a travel package with us. Â
We are not permitted to sell entry only and we are not allowed to sell to US residents.Â
Your race entry fee of £500 includes the following:
Â
TRANSPORTATIONÂ TO THE START
Some argue that one of the hardest things about running the New York City Marathon is getting to the start. Due to the event's point-to-point route which winds its way through the five boroughs you the city the start area, in Fort Wadsworth near the base of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in Staten Island, is some distance from finish. Since most international runners are staying in hotels in midtown Manhattan the journey to Fort Wadsworth can take anywhere from 1-3 hours.
Â
There are three official transportation options: a Midtown bus, the Staten Island ferry or the Midtown Ferry. We have previously used the Midtown Ferry, which is the quickest way to the start and also means you can leave the hotel much later than other start transport options. Unlike the buses or Staten Island ferry, which are the other two official transport options, places on the Midtown Ferry are limited and demand is high. You will have the option to use any of the three official tansport options when you register, but the Midtown Ferry will fill quicker than the other options, which is another reason to enter early. We'll provide a private transfer direct from the Warwick Hotel to those on the 7am or 8am Midtown ferry. This is only available to people who have booked the Warwick Hotel through 2:09 Events. We will provide guides and guidance to those using the Staten Island Ferry or official bus services but our Warwick Hotel shuttle will only go to the Midtown Ferry.Â
PARTNERS, FAMILY & FRIENDS
If you are travelling with non-runners, you need not worry about them on race day. They are invited to walk down with us to our spectator spot on First Avenue between the 16 and 17-mile points. We walk as a group from our hotels and we generally have 30-40 people in the group. From First Avenue, it's a short walk across to Central Park where your supporters can see you come through at 25 miles near Central Park Zoo.Â

 Warwick Hotel SOLD OUT
The historic 4-star Warwick New York conveys a stylish tradition and history at odds with the fast-pace of the city which surrounds it. Built in 1926 by media tycoon William Randolph Hearst, the Warwick Hotel New York has become one of the world's most legendary hotels, welcoming The Beatles, Elvis, James Dean and Cary Grant among others. More importantly for our trip, its midtown location just 500 metres from Central Park, is perfect for the marathon finish.
The bedrooms are generous by the standards of New York hotels and all feature marble bathrooms, desks with international plug-ins, flat-screen TVs and fully stocked minibars. Murals on 54th, the onsite restaurant, was named after Dean Cornwell who painted the murals on the walls of the restaurant. The Warwick is also home to an extensive fitness Centre as well as Randolph’s Bar and Lounge, a traditional American bistro-style restaurant.
The Museum of Modern Art is a couple of minutes away, as are the shops of Fifth Avenue and the Rockefeller Centre.Â
Hotel Edison SOLD OUT
Imbued with Jazz Age charm and sophistication, the Hotel Edison was among the first art deco hotels in New York City's Theatre District.
Located just steps from Broadway and one block away from Times Square, the hotel has offered a perfect location to guests of the city for over eight decades. Since its opening day in 1931 when Thomas Edison, the hotel's innovative namesake, turned on the marquee lights of the Edison, the hotel has been setting trends in New York City. Throughout the years, the hotel has been synonymous with celebrity, innovation, and art, with its stylish interiors being used in major productions like The Godfather, Naked City and Birdman.
Each room in the property highlights the hotel's storied namesake with custom Edison lighting and luxe touches like customized marble baths and furnishings. The luxuriously appointed spacious rooms and suites at Hotel Edison are the elegant, yet approachable and affordable, accommodation of choice for savvy solo travelers, families, and groups of friends visiting NYC's bustling Times Square district. During the past decade, Hotel Edison has gone through significant modernisation while retaining its Art Deco charm.
The hotel features two excellent restaurants, Bond 45 and Friedmans, as well as the Rum House, regarded as one of the best bars in the Theatre District. Room service is offered via Friedmans and the hotel also has a 24-hour fitness centre.
